Energy Barrier for Walls

When most people think about insulation, they think about the attic. But, creating an energy barrier in your building’s walls is important, too.

Not only does having insulated walls make your home a more comfortable environment, but it also helps to keep your power consumption under control.

Whether you already have insulation but want a well-rounded solution, or your insulation is old and needs replacing, Destin Insulation can help.

This radiant energy barrier works with nearly any type of traditional insulation, from blown to fiberglass, and because Destin Insulation team members are professionally trained, they can advise you on the best solution for your individual needs.

Complete Your Attic with The Help Of Destin Insulation

Although many homes have fiberglass or other types of attic insulation, they still don’t fully protect you from the outside temperature – or from high energy bills. One cause for expensive power bills that many homeowners don’t consider is depleted R-value.

Destin Insultation - Insulation Effectiveness

Insulation Effectiveness Decreases With Age

As insulation ages, its ability to resist heat decreases along with its effectiveness. In addition, insulation that’s been subject to moisture or has compressed over time does not provide its labeled R-value.

So, unless you’ve recently updated your building’s attic insulation, you probably don’t have as much protection as you thought you did.

Another reason for energy loss through the attic is emission, or radiant heat transfer, which is essentially the transfer of heat through empty space, rather than by direct contact. If you’ve ever felt the warmth of the sun on your face, then you’ve experienced heat transfer by emission.

Adding attic insulation such as fiberglass or cellulose doesn’t fully address this type of transfer because they protect mostly against convection and conduction, two other types of heat transfer.

The roof is constantly subject to heat

Your roof will always take on the heat of the sun during summer and the cold of the rain and winds during other seasons, making it very difficult to keep heat from flowing between the inside and out.

After a certain point, regular insulation simply can’t absorb any more heat, rendering it basically useless. Rather than just absorbing the heat, this insulation actually reflects it, helping you keep the temperature of your home independent from the outside environment.

By addressing all three types of energy transfer, your attic insulation can help lower your utility bills and keep your family cozy.
